Living with chronic pain can make even the simplest daily activities feel overwhelming. Whether it's persistent back pain, neck discomfort, joint pain, or nerve-related symptoms, chronic pain often affects mobility, sleep, work performance, and overall quality of life. While many people rely on temporary solutions like pain medications, lasting relief often requires a more personalized approach.
At Lawrence R. Miller, MD – Interventional Pain Management, we understand that no two patients experience pain in the same way. That's why we develop customized treatment plans designed to identify the underlying cause of your pain and provide targeted, minimally invasive solutions that promote long-term relief.
Why Personalized Pain Management Matters
Chronic pain is defined as pain that persists for three months or longer, even after the original injury or condition has healed. It may result from arthritis, spinal disorders, nerve damage, sports injuries, degenerative disc disease, or other complex medical conditions.
Because every patient's condition is unique, effective pain management should never follow a one-size-fits-all model. Personalized treatment allows physicians to consider:
Your medical history
The location and cause of your pain
Diagnostic imaging and physical examination findings
Previous treatments and their effectiveness
Your lifestyle, activity level, and long-term goals
Instead of simply masking symptoms, interventional pain management focuses on treating the source of pain whenever possible.
Signs You May Benefit from a Customized Pain Management Plan
Many individuals delay seeking specialized care, hoping their pain will improve on its own. However, ongoing discomfort may indicate an underlying condition that requires professional evaluation.

You may benefit from seeing an interventional pain specialist if you experience:
Pain lasting longer than three months
Chronic neck or back pain
Joint pain that limits movement
Numbness, tingling, or burning sensations
Difficulty walking, standing, or exercising
Pain that disrupts sleep
Frequent reliance on pain medication
Reduced ability to work or enjoy daily activities
Early intervention often leads to better outcomes and may help prevent chronic pain from becoming more severe.
Comprehensive Treatment Options Tailored to Your Condition
Dr. Lawrence R. Miller specializes in minimally invasive interventional procedures designed to reduce pain while helping patients avoid unnecessary surgery whenever appropriate. Depending on your diagnosis, your personalized treatment plan may include one or more advanced therapies.
Epidural Steroid Injections
For patients experiencing pain caused by spinal inflammation, herniated discs, or spinal stenosis, epidural steroid injections can reduce inflammation around irritated nerves and provide meaningful relief.

These injections are commonly used for:
Sciatica
Lumbar radiculopathy
Cervical radiculopathy
Herniated discs
Spinal stenosis
Facet Joint Injections and Medial Branch Blocks
Pain originating from the small facet joints of the spine can cause chronic neck or lower back pain. Diagnostic medial branch blocks help determine whether these joints are the source of discomfort, while therapeutic injections can reduce inflammation and improve mobility.
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
When diagnostic injections successfully identify the source of pain, radiofrequency ablation may provide longer-lasting relief.

This minimally invasive procedure uses controlled heat to interrupt pain signals traveling through targeted nerves. Many patients experience relief lasting six months to over a year, depending on their condition.
RFA is commonly recommended for chronic:
Neck pain
Low back pain
Sacroiliac joint pain
Facet joint pain
Spinal Cord Stimulation
Patients with persistent nerve pain that has not responded to conservative treatments may be candidates for spinal cord stimulation.
This advanced therapy uses a small implanted device that modifies pain signals before they reach the brain, helping reduce chronic pain associated with:
Failed back surgery syndrome
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
Chronic neuropathic pain
Peripheral nerve pain
Regenerative Medicine

For select patients, regenerative therapies such as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections may support the body's natural healing process by utilizing concentrated platelets derived from the patient's own blood.
PRP therapy is often considered for:
Tendon injuries
Ligament injuries
Certain joint conditions
Sports-related injuries
Building a Long-Term Pain Management Strategy
Successful pain management is rarely achieved through a single procedure. Instead, long-term relief often comes from a comprehensive treatment strategy that evolves with your progress.
Your personalized care plan may include:
Comprehensive medical evaluation
Advanced diagnostic imaging when appropriate
Minimally invasive interventional procedures
Physical rehabilitation recommendations
Activity modification and ergonomic guidance
Ongoing follow-up appointments
Adjustments based on your response to treatment
The goal is not only to reduce pain but also to improve function, mobility, and overall quality of life.
